I love sketching in nature. I attended a Natural History Field Sketching workshop in the remote village of McCarthy, Alaska long ago, and I fell in love with the experience of making art in the outdoors. A live, in-person subject in its natural setting is ideal source material for any artist. I often end up developing my sketches into woodcuts or monotypes.
I love sharing this instantaneous, fun, forgiving art form with elementary students.
